Many people love music and why shouldn't they? Music is a wonderful thing. A musical person possesses such a gift of bringing forth an undeniable emotional response. Music is truly a wonderful thing. It often amazes me how music can take us back to places in our minds. Places we didn't even remember we had made into memories but sure enough, the song comes on and, "Boom!" Just like that we are back to the day, surrounded by a memory that your brain has so quietly tucked away years ago. Is there anything more powerful than being swept away by music? If you are anything like me, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I enjoy blocking out the lyrics, all so I might pick out the instruments playing in the background. Oh this ability. A musicians gift, which flows through their instrument, brings forth little sensory bumps, little electrifying pulses all over my body. It is in that moment that I am aware, that music has done so much more than just filter through my ears, it has touched my soul. The intimate connection my mind and soul have made with the music has sent a vibrational wave throughout my body. What a gift that others can provide to me through their music.
I remember in college I decided to take some music classes. I grew up listening to all kinds of music. My dad loved music which carried a full orchestra behind it. That is why I enjoy crooning types of music. My dad encouraged me in middle school to write a report on the story of Glenn Miller. I enjoyed his music very much and realized the power of music from that era. There is a movie, "The Glenn Miller Story," you might enjoy. Glenn Miller was another musician amongst many who died in a tragic plane crash. My dad also took my whole family, when I was in college, to a concert where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper were portrayed by talented artist. All three went down in a tragic plane accident as well. They sang songs like, "Peggy Sue, Labamba & Chantilly Lace." Having experienced many varieties of music, I was sure I would enjoy a music class. The one thing that stuck with me was the difference between music and muzak. Muzak is what you hear playing in the elevator as you climb the stories in a building. Muzak is what you hear while you're put on hold as you attempt to reach someone through a phone call. Muzak can be heard all the time, everywhere. It is strange how music is filtered through the air-space as though silence might kill us all. Is it used as a distraction? Is it used like the hum of a fan keeping you company at night while you sleep? The thought of silence in a room,... does it cause panic? Make us uneasy? What is it? It's, "The sounds of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel. "No!" Hahaha.
Let's not forget the T.V. shows all about music too. Lawrence Welk. Remember him? Sunny & Cher, The Partridge Family, The Voice, American Idol, to name a few. The power of music. So, here is my point. Yes, it's about time I move this blog along. My point is, I use music to bring forth the feelings of power within my mind and my soul. Not like Lynda Carter, "Wonder Woman." Well,... maybe like that,... haha. Let me give you an idea of what I mean. The song by Sir Elton John, "I'm Still Standing," no matter what might bring me down, or what might try to take me down, I can revive myself through a song. Or, how about Matthew Wilder's, "Break My Stride." Love that 80's song. Gloria Gaynor's, "I Will Survive," Aretha Franklin's, "Respect," Queen's, "Another One Bites the Dust," sure enough, once again, the power of music comes through in the most amazing ways! The point, the point .... find a song that lifts you up on the grayest of days. Find a song that empowers you and lifts you up so high you have no choice but to look down on those who wish to push negative into your life. "You're Still Standing!" Hang in there, find your mantra, keep your chin up, kick those, things to the curb when they get in your way. You are on the road to success! You've got this one! Let music be your guiding mantra on days when your world seems silent. Lift your soul, your mind, your ego, your undeniable grasp on success. You will get there, you will make it, you will, "Survive!" Now, that's the Point!

Hi Daughter. Yes, we are both leading a life where music has great meaning to us and is not just something to break the silence. I am certain that many, if not most, find music to be an emotional experience that stirs the soul and fosters happy, pleasant memories of life's experiences. A loved song can brighten the darkest of days or, better yet, keep one for experiencing the dark in the first place. There is a song with the title, "With a Song in My Heart." That is a good place to have and keep a song. Love, dad
